Recently, I got the incredible photographer, Elizabeth Hay, to take a few minutes out of her busy schedule to contribute some tips that she has gleaned from her time in the barn to her time as a business owner and photographer... and one life hack!

BUSINESS TIPS

"You CAN teach yourself anything. I didn't know the first thing about digital photography or editing-- enter [the] internet. With the magical internet machine these days, you can literally teach yourself anything if you are willing to try... and keep trying!"

"And blinders! Stay in your own lane and keep your blinders on. It's super hard but you gotta do it. Don't copy someone else's work because they inspire you. Take that inspiration and make it your own. Don't do what someone else has already done, do you. Put yourself out there. You'll be the most proud of your own original work."

BARN TIPS

FLY CONTROL

"I hate flies in the barn so I have a fan on my horse's stall and a fly mask for her. We also use those Fly Predators and I think that helps."

REFRIGERATOR

"[Get] a fridge or mini-fridge in the tack room if you can swing it. A cool drink after a ride is perfect and it's also great for keeping certain horse stuff cool-- like liniment!"

LIFE HACKS

"A shower cap! Everyone will think I'm weird but I swear by it. Want to shower and truly not get your hair wet? Shower cap, my friends. Also, take your makeup off every night. No exceptions. Even if you didn't wear makeup, just wash the day off."
